A cadaver block every year
Each year opens with a one to two week techniques course using cadaveric material, covering instrumentation, advanced surgical technique, soft tissue management and case-based discussion.
One teaching day a fortnight
Core theory is delivered online one day per fortnight in term time, typically a Friday or Saturday, with College learning resources for the self-study in between.
Built for clinicians still in practice
Part time over three years, designed around busy work schedules, including dentists already enrolled on specialty training.
Simulated clinics, direct supervision
Routine and advanced implant techniques are practised in the College's simulation suites under the direct supervision of expert faculty and visiting specialists.
Three ways to finish
Progress through to the full MSc, or exit with a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma. You can also pause and rejoin the programme if circumstances change.
More than the surgical skill
Alongside technique, the curriculum develops treatment planning with digital workflows, research methodology and critical appraisal, patient communication and practice leadership.

Common questions
Will I be treating patients, or only working on models?
On this part-time route, models and simulation — practised under the direct supervision of expert faculty, then applied to patients in your own practice. If you hold permanent GDC registration you can instead take the with-clinic option at £14,500 a year, which adds one to two supervised clinical days a month treating patients at the College's Birmingham clinic. The College cannot offer or facilitate temporary GDC registration, and neither route provides the volume of supervised clinical experience required for specialist recognition in the UK.
How much time will this actually take out of my working week?
One day per fortnight online during term time, usually a Friday or Saturday, plus a one to two week techniques course in Birmingham at the start of each year and self-study in between. It is structured so you do not step away from your practice for three years.
I qualified and practise overseas. Can I apply?
Yes. The programme takes both UK-based and overseas dentists. You need a BDS or equivalent from a recognised institution, registration in good standing with a recognised dental regulatory body, English language evidence (IELTS 7 with no component below 6.0, or equivalent) and two references, one of them academic. The College supports international students with visa applications and accommodation for the hands-on blocks.
What happens if I have to stop partway through?
You can pause and rejoin depending on your circumstances. There are also exit awards, so time already completed can be recognised as a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma rather than lost.
Who will be teaching me?
Experts in the field, including visiting specialists, delivering live sessions. You also get regular tutorials and progress meetings with an academic tutor, plus academic and pastoral support throughout the three years.
